Interim Writing Center Director

Grace

Grace Nicholson is a graduate student completing her MA English in the Department of English and Modern Languages. She has previously held other positions within the department as administrative support, though she is best known for her role in student life as President of Sigma Tau Delta, International English Honor Society. She is dedicated to student success and academic improvement, especially related to all things English and writing. She has previous experience in peer review, workshop forums, and a composition internship within the department. In her spare time, you can find Grace reading, writing fiction, and drinking coffee.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you! In the photo, that's me on the left. I work at the front desk, so if you come into the Writing Center, I am one of the first people that you see! I am bilingual in writing and speaking English and Spanish. I'm working on being trilingual by majoring in ASL Interpreting. I am a beginner, but I can sufficiently communicate with Deaf students as well! I will always be happy to assist you in any questions that you may have for the Writing Center, and we all look forward to working alongside with you to make your ��APP experience even better!"

"My name is Harvest, and I work at the Writing Center's front desk. My duties include helping you match and meet with a coach and making sure you get all the support you need! A little bit about me: I am an undergraduate junior majoring in speech and hearing science and my favorite and am an avid student researcher."

“I am an undergraduate English major and Writing minor. Writing has always been a passion of mine, and I mostly enjoy writing fiction and poetry. I am most experienced in MLA; however, I am always trying to learn more about other styles and the writing world in general. I love helping people and I believe that everyone can learn something new from each other, whether it’s writing related or not.”

"I have been working at the Writing Center since the summer of 2012. My areas of expertise are to help deaf/hearing students improve their English writing skills and critical thinking skills; also to help students understand and execute their assignments more successfully. I am proficient in MLA and APA and well-versed in Chicago Style. I am a proficient ASL user and have the capability to provide communication access to deaf students in ASL.

For hearing students: I am Deaf, and I have tutored numerous hearing students, from undergraduates to doctoral candidates. I communicate with hearing students via MS Word, text on Class via Blackboard, or any form of text. Some hearing students communicate with me in sign language or ASL."

Connor

“Hi! My name is Connor. I am a senior attending ��APP and I am studying English & Literature with the goal of becoming a teacher. I spend a lot of my free time reading, hiking, or watching my favorite show (Doctor Who). I am versed in MLA formatting as well as becoming familiar with APA and Chicago styles. I am a member of our Sigma Tau Delta chapter at Lamar. Other than academic writing, I also have dabbled in creative fiction. My goal in being a Writing Coach is to assist others in communicating their message effectively. Writing can be difficult, but with a little help, writing can become a tool to use your voice to the best of your ability. I am looking forward to working with you.”

"Hello! I am an English major at Lamar who loves writing and collaborating with students on their projects. Outside of working on English papers, I also enjoy writing creatively through fiction and poetry. I am particularly skilled in writing in the MLA style, though I am working towards becoming more familiar with other writing styles such as Chicago and APA. I hope to have the chance to work with you!"
